Description
The beautiful polished aluminum lines of the Boeing B-29 Fortress glistens as the sun is setting at the close of another airshow. Boeing made more than 2,500 examples of this aircraft and today there are only two flying examples of this iconic and historic aircraft in existence. This one named "Doc" after one of the seven dwarfs in the Disney movie was completely refurbished with Boeing's help in the Wichita facility where it was originally built and even a few of the volunteer workers were original line workers who worked on this magnificent engineering marvel when it originally rolled down the assembly line. The aircraft is powered by 4 Wright Cyclone R-3350 engines totaling 8,800 total horsepower drinking fuel at a rate of about 100 gallons per hour per engine during military full power. The B-29 is famous for dropping the first atomic bombs in history which helped bring and end to WWII.
